Parametric Vs Non-parametric
Parametric (Modeled Surfaces)
- In a parametric file or model, all features are natively built and modifiable.
- IGES surfaces are created by using the scan data as a visual reference.
- The surfaces are independent and not tied to the scan data.
- Usually good for geometric shapes
- Planes, radius and draft angels are consistent.
Non-parametric (Surfaced Wrap)
- A non-parametric file or model is not modifiable, except for adding extrudes and cuts to the geometry.
- Wrap surfaces are created directly from scan data.
- Surfaces are tied to scan data
- Usually good for organic shapes
- Planes, radius and draft angles are not consistent.
